While Gordon Ramsay is famous around the world for being the sharp-tongued Michelin-starred chef and TV personality behind shows like Hell’s Kitchen, few people know that he has a daughter who also has skills in the kitchen – and now, on the dance floor, too.

Matilda Ramsay, better known as Tilly, is the fourth child of Gordon Ramsay. And though she’s still only 19 years old, she’s no stranger to the spotlight, having already hosted her own cooking show on the BBC, and written a cookbook associated with the show.

But it seems this year Tilly is branching out, and looks set to become an even bigger household name through her appearance on popular UK ballroom dancing series Strictly Come Dancing.

She learned to cook to get her family’s attention

While other cooks start their career out of love for food, Tilly’s foray into cooking started for a different reason: to catch her family’s attention. In an interview with Waitrose Weekend, Tilly admitted that while her siblings had to shout or make noise to get attention, she preferred to cook instead.

“When you are the youngest in a noisy family of six, you really have to shout to get noticed … Instead of shouting, I started cooking – it is easier to get attention by producing a tasty dinner for everyone than it is jumping up and down making a lot of noise all the time,” she said.

Tilly’s attempt at catching her family’s attention seemed to work out well, as she’s since been able to transform it into a successful cooking career. At 14 years old, she starred in her own cooking show on BBC children’s channel CBBC called Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch. The three-series show featured Tilly cooking for her family during their summer holidays in London and Los Angeles between 2015 and 2018.

Tilly also published her own cookbook entitled Matilda & The Ramsay Bunch: Tilly’s Kitchen Takeover. The book includes 60 of her own recipes, along with tips and tricks from her famous dad.

She considers herself to be a daddy’s girl

Despite being the daughter of one of the toughest chefs in the world, Tilly considers herself to be a “daddy’s girl”. She told The Irish Sun that her father is “hard on the outside but soft on the inside”, and even considers her mum to be the stricter parent.

The pair constantly feature on each other’s social media accounts, sharing funny moments such as Tilly turning Gordon into an “idiot sandwich” by putting his face in between two slices of bread, and Tilly splashing him with water and egging his head.

She prefers her mum’s cooking to her dad’s

While she has a close relationship with her father, Tilly is unafraid to admit that she prefers her mum’s cooking. In a funny TikTok video that garnered 72 million views in just five days, she put together a clip of herself dancing unenthusiastically while Gordon cooked in the foreground (captioned “When dad says he’s cooking dinner …”) and another shot of herself celebrating in the background as her mum Tana cooks dinner.

She tried out ballet before switching to football

Stepping away from the cooking stove, Tilly is now all set to star on ballroom dancing show Strictly Come Dancing. In an interview with hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, Tilly admitted that she tried dancing when she was much younger because her mum put her and her siblings into a ballet class. But she added that none of them were very good, and they ended up switching to football camp instead!
